The cost(?) of integrity

Really, everyone praises evil these days.
The right values have become bad.
The bad things have become good.

You’re old-school when you ask for SOFT drink at social gatherings.
You’re old-school when you dull, you decline “help” from your willing friend in the exam hall – not like you got a clue to the question in front of you o.
You’re dull – a willing chic visits, and you “let her go” just like that..
Co-execs at work have found a loop-hole in the company accounts and you’re meant to be one of the “co-beneficiaries” of the bounty they’ve decided to loot. You decline because of some integrity you hold on to. Clearly you’re dull.

There are numerous other examples in daily life about how things that are clearly wrong have become the standard way to live.
Truth remains: if 99 out a 100 people choose to follow the wrong path, it doesn’t makes the wrong path right.”

“The wicked are everywhere
and everyone praises what is evil.
Keep us always safe, O Lord,
and preserve us from such people.”

The tendency is for folks to start thinking they gain nothing by holding on to their godly integrity.

“As we see it, proud people are the ones who are happy. Evil people not only prosper, but they test God’s patience with their evil deeds and get away with it.”

But the truth is that the life of a person who holds on to his integrity in a perverse world, is far easier and more peaceful.

A liar spends a lot of ATP covering his tracks and trying to make his different stories consistent. I do not envy that.

Those fellow execs who invited you to loot with them, some news comes up that a regulatory body discovered funds missing in the company account. You’re remain as cool and calm as a cucumber.

Fear of scandals and other issues relating to extra-marital sex? Not as issue at all.

The list goes on..

To cap it all, you have no worries at all. You go about your daily business with a clean mind, a clear conscience and a skull devoid of worries.

But even more importantly, God sees and acknowledges these things. Centuries ago, He had to school a group of people who were uncertain about these concepts. These guys had been wondering aloud amongst themselves whether they gained anything at all by keeping their godly integrity.

“As we see it, proud people are the ones who are happy. Evil people not only prosper, but they test God’s patience with their evil deeds and get away with it.”

..and the Lord listened and heard what they said. In his presence, there was written down in a book a record of those who feared the Lord and respected him.

God then said,

“They will be my people. On the day when I act, they will be my very own. I will be merciful to them, as a father is merciful to the son who serves him.”

This gets interesting. God continues,

“Once again my people will see the difference between what happens to the righteous and to the wicked, to the person who serves me and the one who does not.”

That difference is too big a deal to me. I would give up the world just to have it.
