We all know at least a few things about God. Three of the commonest attributes people frequently mention are His omnipotence, omniscience and OMNIPRESENCE. Even a fool on the streets knows God is everywhere at the same time. That’s why I wonder what Jonah meant when he stupidly thought he was running from God’s presence. You see how funny that sounds. I mean, what was he thinking?
Jonah was a prophet. He was meant to know better than how he acted. Or maybe he was so desperate to flee that the knowledge of the fact that God was everywhere just vapourised from his cerebrum.
He had been instructed by God to go to Nineveh to warn the inhabitants of God’s judgement. Somehow, Jonah decided it was best to escape. He got on a ship headed for Tarshish (as though God were not in Tarshish). Of course, God proved to him He was also right there on the sea. Jonah had to learn (or re-learn) about God’s omnipresence the hard way.
Eventually Jonah asked God’s forgiveness and carried out the assignment he was given.
God is right there where you are. Nothing you are doing or thinking is hidden from him.
“Where could I go from your presence O Lord? Even if I made my bed in hell, still there you would find me.”
